Frequently Asked Questions

What is mastering?

Mastering is the final creative step in the music production process before distribution.

Acting as a final polish on your record, mastering provides an impartial ear to help perfect flow, fades, track order, and proper loudness. A good mastering engineer will help trouble shoot any final problems you may encounter so your audience experiences your work the way they should. Think cohesiveness, tone, loudness standards, and file types; mastering takes the guesswork out of the equation.

How long does mastering take?

Typically, one to two business days. Some projects come in practically perfect and others need a little more help. While turnaround is often just one business day, additions such as revisions, new mixes, or alternates may require more time. It is a balancing act to work quickly and provide the level of excellence your music deserves so I typically recommend budgeting a week so you can sit with it. If your project requires faster service, just let me know.

How many revisions do I get?

It’s always my first priority to ensure that my clients walk away completely satisfied, so I provide two revisions free of charge. As a rule of thumb, revisions tend to work best when you pick one or two big picture items, you’d be surprised how much falls into place when Need the bass up? A different fade? A version run through with a new kick? As long as it falls within the first two edits, it’s on the house. After that there is a rate for

What if I want more alternate versions?

If you’ve used both of your free revisions but still want Clean versions, TV edits, Instrumentals, or Acapellas (or just more revision passes after the first two) they can be purchased a la carte for $15 each.

How much does mastering cost?

As any good engineer will tell you, it depends on the project! Once you reach out, we can discuss pricing, delivery timeline, and expectations. If budget is an issue, let’s talk; I’m positive that we can find a solution that works for both of us.

I can make a mix loud, why do I need it mastered?

Fair enough, though most artists hire a dedicated mastering engineer for the same reason they hire a professional photographer their wedding. Anyone with a phone can get the job done, but it’s nice to have someone who has the gear and experience to get it done right.

Modern mastering engineers provide an impartial ear to make sure your record sounds as great as possible everywhere from the club to your airpods. If you’re having trouble getting things to translate out of the studio, mastering can help. Get a final check before distribution, optimize your deliverables for streaming, and keep your tracks competitive but tasteful.

OK, so why should you master my record?

While you could just as easily go somewhere cheaper or have your friend do it for free, I really believe you get what you pay for. That’s personalized care from a professional who will not quit until you are completely happy with your final product.

Sometimes that means going a few extra miles. But I do it. Because I love this work and I need cardio. Putting in that last little dash of magic on a song makes my day and I’m lucky enough to do it every day whether it’s for a client, a fellow producer, or myself. Every dollar I’ve invested in speakers, software, gear, and education has been to do this. You should bring your record here because I believe it deserves the same level of love and care that you’ve put into it. And if you’ve read this far I think you believe that too.

Hey, uh what’s this I hear about a queer discount?

Yep. Queer artists get 15% off. Those not in the LGBTQIA community may receive the same discount if they can provide sufficient evidence that they were bullied in high school.
